Nasa, Jaxa and various other space organisations filmed a spectacular re-entry of a Japanese spacecraft that had visited and retrieved a sample of the Itokawa asteroid.

Titled “Get Back in Your Book,” this highly creative set by Canada-based Lissy Elle features a few of our favourite fictional characters trying to stay in the real world, but forced to go back into their respective books.

Watched the live stream of this earlier before. Even from so far away and just in a little 320×240px window in my browser, you can still feel awe-inspired at the amazing power that’s getting it off the ground and into orbit of our planet.
The shuttle take-off image is awesome, but I also loved the shot of the photographers viewing it through their lenses. I would likely be doing the same if I were there!

Last Friday, April 30th, was the 35th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War, and last Tuesday, May 4th, was the 40th anniversary of the shooting of protesting students at Kent State University. The Vietnam War and America’s involvement in it affected the lives of millions for well over a decade, exacting a massive human cost with millions of deaths and countless injuries.

Nuff said, really.
