The Youtube Symphony Orchestra

.........................................................

Youtube (i.e. Google) has put out a blog post inviting musicians from around the world to come together and become the first online collaborative orchestra. This is really cool stuff- they’re getting together a number of organisations and well-respected people in the music industry. In the orchestra will include members of The London Symphony Orchestra, playing a new piece written by Tan Dun, who wrote the soundtrack for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Hero, among others. In the video above you can see the pianist Lang Lang giving an introduction to the project, who is also acting as an adviser to the musicians.

I play drums as an instrument, and as the Snare Drum is included I’ll definitely have a crack at it. As soon as the full score comes out I may even have a play with Cubase or Reason and make my own version. Either way, it’d be a privilege to be involved.
