Late post, oh well. Once more I went to the London Expo along with the rest of my Anime Society gang, didn’t cosplay like last time but enjoyed myself much the same. Inside wasn’t as interesting as I found it the previous year, I guess just because it’s all very similar stuff. The Games and Movies they showcase are obviously different but the shops don’t change. Still bought a few things, including a pretty nice t-shirt from the guys at Terratag, although that site did just crash my browser so beware!
My friend Mandy had a stall which was pretty sweet, selling badges, keyrings and that kind of thing, and the Cosplay Masquerade was also pretty impressive this year. (mostly)
There’s a consensus among the fellow Anime watchers that we all fit into one of the characters from the Genshiken series. It’s scary sometimes matching people up and seeing just how well I fit. For me I’m definately the Sasahara character with a balance of everything, with other members who I won’t mention here to save face matching up just as equally. However when it comes to Expos like this I pretty much turn into Tanaka- checking out all the Cosplayers and going mad with photos. Nearly 600 this year, not bad for a single battery, although I did have to delete a few of the worse ones during the day to make room. Still with my trusty 400D (although an upgrade would be nice, curse my lack of money) with my 17-85is and my 10-22mm which came in very useful later in the day for the group shots.
Some people will bash me for this but I also tend to have a different preferential way of taking photos of people as well. Most will try and grab a shot of the person posed as the character they’re cosplaying, which means you just end with a Flickr page like this, with lots of photos of people in the exact same position, more or less. Super, but people aren’t just standing around in awkward-looking poses all day. They’re spending time with others, they’re shopping, eating and taking photos themselves. I actually find it much more fun to see characters doing what you’d never see them doing normally, much like how everyone loves it when you see the Bleach Shinigami in IRL clothes. (Specifically the captains but most of the characters do it)
So most of the photos you’ll see are of group shots, people laughing and joking about, mixed with the occasonal posed shot as well. These are just a selection of the best, I just can’t be spending time going through five hundred-odd photos and tweaking them to their best! I’ve got work to be doing, you know…
Few more pictures after the jump, otherwise you can grab about 70 others on my [Gallery Page] where you can can browse through them with funky Apple coverflow goodness.
