I have another new hard drive and this time it’s all Black and Shiny. It’s one of Lacie’s Neil Poulton (whoever he is)-designed 1 terabyte models and should keep me going. Running out of plug sockets to plug all my externals in though, now got 4 of them and a lack of extension leads… It is pretty cool though, their drives have finally got a decent sized switch on the back rather than a button on my others that makes it easier to switch it off if need be. The display light also projects the bar of light onto the surface it’s sitting on, rather than having the light on the front. Excellent.
In other news I recently discovered the Carrington theme and am just giving it a try for the time being. It’s from the awesome guys at CrowdFavorite.com and it’s GPL, so anyone can have a tinker with it. I’ll have a play with theming it and seeing whether it’s easier to do so that K2. I’m liking the sidebar for one… I shoved it as the default theme for the time being just to test it out, and I’ll see where it goes from there.
I also got into the Boxee Alpha this week which is pretty exciting, haven’t been in an Alpha for a while now. Gotta love bug checking! It’s a pretty neat Media Centre app for Mac and Linux which has several good things going for it over Frontrow for example- namely support for external and networked devices, rss feeds, Internet TV like the Revision3 shows, Last.fm support as well as the community aspect for recommending items to view. Shove this on a Mac Mini (while you can), hook it up to a Hi-Def screen in your living room and you’re away. It took it’s sweet ass time finding and cataloging all my stuff but once it finished I had access to all my media across all my hard drives within one interface. Very nicely made and polished I think this could go places.
