This brilliant insight into Japan and the accompanying HDR photography is amazing. You can grab higher resolution versions off the website, this Bamboo shot is now set as my wallpaper…

Watched the live stream of this earlier before. Even from so far away and just in a little 320×240px window in my browser, you can still feel awe-inspired at the amazing power that’s getting it off the ground and into orbit of our planet.
The shuttle take-off image is awesome, but I also loved the shot of the photographers viewing it through their lenses. I would likely be doing the same if I were there!

Last Friday, April 30th, was the 35th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War, and last Tuesday, May 4th, was the 40th anniversary of the shooting of protesting students at Kent State University. The Vietnam War and America’s involvement in it affected the lives of millions for well over a decade, exacting a massive human cost with millions of deaths and countless injuries.

This sucks but I can see why they did it- apart from the Owl City cover it was entirely made up of his own compositions, but the recording of strangers online is probably a big issue. As such, he’s put out an updated version with some of the people blurred out. (Although plenty of copies of the original remain without any modification…) It’s linked above if you’d like to re-favourite it, as it’s an entirely new submission without all the past (+4mil) views and favourite.
Personally I wonder whether this might become an issue with any Chatroulette videos posted onto YouTube, will people have to start putting up notices on their Webcams to state that they are being recorded, or will Chatroulette themselves create a T&C that includes that information?

¶This is a somewhat shameless rip of an article from the css-tricks community which caught my eye. It showed the web/applications used by a web designer in a typical day, and I decided that it would be an interesting exercise for myself to form a similarly-styled list. Hopefully you’ll find it interesting enough…
My days tend to be very changeable depending on when I wake up and whether I’m working from home, but I have a typical set of applications and websites that I frequent (nearly) every day.
I’m rarely anywhere without my MacBook Pro near me, and when I’m in need of an Alarm to wake me up in the morning, this app works just how I want. It also provides another useful function. I tend to either listen to a few podcasts or watch a few episodes of something while in bed, and from one app I can set a timer for it to automatically put my mac to sleep (usually by the time I’ve fallen asleep) and then wake me up in the morning at a set time. It does so by waking it from standby and then slowly fading in an iTunes playlist of my choosing.

Some people may have problems with the PC version (not me personally but whatever) but on Leopard, iTunes is the defacto Music player standard. The above wouldn’t be much use without it, and I’ve always found it quick, functional and smooth. Manages my playlists, podcasts and my iPhone quite happily.

With multiple email accounts, using a web application for email just isn’t particularly efficient, even if I do love the Gmail interface. Again, it syncs up with my iPhone, which works just fine. The RSS feed reader features are somewhat underwhelming, but I have a different app for that.

I NEED TO UPDATE THIS MORE OFTEN.
In short, I’ve graduated, I’ve got a job, Lots has happened, and I’m currently going through three weeks of jury service on a murder case. Huzzah!
Should also mention the wedding of my cousin Dan and his new waifu Charlie happened on Saturday, and I took some rather lovely photos of them and the event. If you have access to my Facebook then I’m slowly uploading them to there for the time being, and will upload them somewhere more public in due course. Above is a teaser anyway.

¶Very glad to be finally finished and done with Uni work and overly-stressful days and nights without much sleep! My Final Major Project is in, and while I have a bit of work to do on it before I can show it at my end-of-year show, I have no more deadlines to keep! Can now get on with work that actually earns me money…
In other news, last weekend, despite my general illness and feeling down, I checked out the May London MCM Expo as I have been doing for quite some time now. I really only go for the Cosplay and the events these days- the artist’s marketplace is great for crafts that aren’t mass produced, but the main stalls from the larger stores are the same every year. Also, I can get things like that off of eBay or places like Etsy.com if I have the urge to buy plush toys or posters. I did splash out and buy a few plush cupcakes from fellow deviantARTist kickass-peanut aka Hannah, and also checked out a few of my other friends’ stalls at the event. All cool!
I totally dig the Cosplay meet-ups that go on at the Expo, though. One of the major events is the Bleach cosplay meet-ups, which I’ve had the fortune of being able to photograph for the last 3 or so years. I think overall I must have taken 600 photos of them all, from which I’ve selected about 100 of the best and stuck them up on Flickr for anyone to see! Definitely worth checking out- the costumes are awesome, but seeing them en-masse and acting events out is even cooler. Also it’s quite fun to see people from the previous year and see whether they’ve changed their costume…
So you should be seeing more on this blog, even if it’s just a selection of links and some of the more interesting videos I find around the web… stay tuned!
